(Training recognition by the SIA)

The Security Industry Authority (SIA) set the guidelines and standards intended for official Security Guard training in the UK.

The Security Guard Course is required if you want to obtain the SIA Security Guarding Licence which allows you to work in the private security industry as a security officer. Security Officers usually work can work in a wide variety of roles including static guarding, manned guarding, key holding etc.

The Course is approved by the different Awarding Bodies and allows graduates to apply for the SIA license from Security Industry Authority.

In other words: this course provide the Security Guard qualification required for a Security Guard licence in the UK.

NOTE: If you are considering this qualification, we strongly recommend that you take the SIA Door Supervisor course which qualifies you to work both as a professional Door Supervisor and a Security Guard.

It is important to note that Security Guard licence holders cannot work in licensed premises. We, therefore, recommend doing the SIA Door Supervisor licence course as it is a better investment with more job prospects.

Q. Is the Security Guard course right for me?

It is important to be aware that with this qualification you will not be allowed to work as a Door Supervisor because physical intervention is not taught on this course. This makes Door Supervisor course more valuable and appealing to employers when you are applying for jobs.

Q. What is the aim of the Security Guard course?
The aim of this course is achieve a Level 2 Award in Security Guarding. When you have gained this, you will be eligible to apply for a Security Guard SIA licence. To work as an SIA Door Supervisor or an SIA Security Guard in the UK you must hold a valid SIA licence issued by the Security Industry Authority (SIA).

This Security Guard course is for new entrants into the Security Industry who are looking to gain employment as Security Guards in premises such a shopping centres, retail centres and airports. You must successfully complete this course to be able to apply for an SIA licence in Security Guarding.

Q. What is the difference between Security Guarding and the Door Supervision?

You may be wondering the difference between Security Guarding and Door Supervision. It is important to understand this difference as Security Guards cannot work as Door Supervisors. However, Door Supervisors can work as Security Guards.

The first 3 units of both these qualifications are the same but Door Supervisors learn an additional unit (Physical Intervention). This additional unit allows them to work in more roles whilst also enabling them for Security Guarding roles. We always recommend the Door Supervision course over Security Guarding.

Security Guard L2

 

THE COURSE OBJECTIVES THE FOLLOWING:

  • Develop the learner’s understanding of the roles and responsibilities of security officers working in the 
    private security industry and the relevance of regulations within which they must operate.
  • Develop the learner’s knowledge of health and safety in the work place including awareness of emergency procedures.
  • Enable the learner to implement effective methods of communication and reporting.
  • Develop the learner’s abilities to recognise, defuse and resolve conflict situations.

INSTRUCTOR TEAM

The SIA Security Guard course is run by our specialist team of internationally recognized and highly experienced trainers, who are highly qualified ex-soldiers, police officers and law enforcement agents, who throughout the years obtained much knowledge and personal experiences in the different special areas of the Security.

SKILL PREREQUSITS

None. A candidate does not have to possess prior experience in Security guarding.
 

METHODS

This course will be taught using theoretical and practical exercises. The lectures lectures will be conducted in the classroom.
 

VENUE:

The course will be given in PSA HQ Training Center or in case of an appropriate number of applicants, it will be held in regional training centers by the official PSA Instructors.
 

ASSESSMENT:

This qualification is assessed by the following means:

  1. Multiple choice questions 
  2. Externally set, internally marked and externally quality assured practical task.

Multiple choice questions are used to assess the learners underpinning knowledge.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Must be 18 years of age and should have a fluent understanding of the English language.
  • Clean criminal record.

COURSE DURATION

4 DAYS

CANDIDATE:

In order to maintain quality of instruction and ensure that candidates receive personal attention, our course intake is restricted to 10-12 students per program.

 Minimum participants for any course: 8 students per program.

Due to the popularity of our seminars we recommend that students wishing to attend a course reserve a place as early as possible to avoid disappointment.
