6. Cookie categories

The type of cookie used on this website can be put into 1 of 4 categories, based on the International Chamber of Commerce guide to cookie categories: Strictly NecessaryPerformance, Functionality & Profile and Targeting.

The details below relate to the types of cookies used on Barclays.co.uk including its secure area.

1. Strictly Necessary Cookies

These cookies are essential, as they ensure your security and privacy when you use our secure sites, as well as enabling you to move around a website and use its features.

Without these cookies, the smooth use of the website cannot be guaranteed and services you've asked for (such as access to secure areas) can't be provided.

These cookies don't gather information about you that could be used for marketing or remembering where you've been on the internet.

Their validity period extends to the duration of the visit, and "cookies" are automatically deleted at the end of the session or when the browser is closed.

This category cannot be disabled.

2. Performance Cookies

In most cases, the information these cookies collect is anonymous and is only used to improve how a website works and to help us to identify issues you may have when using our online services.

These cookies are not used to target you with online advertising. Without these cookies we can't learn how our website is performing and make relevant improvements that could better your browsing experience. - so without the information contained in "cookies" that store preferences, our website may work less smoothly.

We use the "performance cookies" to collect information about how our visitors use our website (for example, which pages were viewed by the visitor, the number of pages visited, the part of the site you clicked, the length of each session, and the error messages you received). This is done to improve our website (services, features, ...) to meet the needs of our visitors and provide them with a high quality, user-friendly experience

3. Functionality & Profile Cookies

These cookies allow a website to remember choices you make (such as your username, language or the region you're in) and tailor the website to provide enhanced features and content for you. For instance, they can be used to remember login details, changes you've made to text size, font and other parts of pages that you can customise. They may also be used to provide services you've asked for, such as watching a video or commenting on a blog.

These cookies may be used to ensure that all our services and communications are relevant to you. The information these cookies collect cannot track your browsing activity on other websites. Without these cookies, a website cannot remember choices you've previously made or personalise your browsing experience.

4. Targeting Cookies

These cookies and similar technologies gather information about your browsing habits. They remember that you've visited a website and share this information with other organisations, such as advertisers and platforms on which we advertise. They do this in order to provide you with ads that are more relevant to you and your interests.

Without these cookies, online advertisements you encounter will be less relevant to you and your interests.

7. What About Third-Party Advertisers and Links to Other Websites?

Our site includes third-party advertising and links to other Web sites.

For performance measurement, our website uses third-party cookies for every visit. Using "cookies" we track how many people visit the website and what routes they visit. All information is stored anonymously and is used to anonymously analyze the behavior of visitors to provide a high quality experience.

8. Check "cookie setup" to disable "cookies"
Modern browsers allow you to change the "cookie settings". Some browsers automatically accept cookies as a default, but this setting can also be changed to prevent the user from automatically accepting for the future. In the case of migration, the browser will always offer you the option of "setting cookies" each time.

We draw your visitors' attention to the fact that since the purpose of "cookies" is to support and facilitate the usability and processes of the website, we cannot guarantee that the visitor will be able to make full use of all the features of the website if the cookies are disabled. In this case, the webpage may work differently from the web browser.

You can also set your browser to notify you each time new Cookies are placed on your computer or other device. You can find more detailed information about how you can manage Cookies through your browser’s help function.
